The phrase gets used loosely. Plenty of what sells as silk loungewear is polyester satin a fabric that mimics the sheen of silk but traps heat, holds odour and pills within a season. Three things genuinely separate luxury silk loungewear from the rest.
The fibre is natural, not imitation. Real silk and modal are breathable and thermoregulating. They move heat away from your body when the room is warm and hold it close when it is cool, which is why a silk set feels comfortable across seasons in a way that polyester never does.
The grade is stated. Silk and modal are graded, and 6A is the highest. It describes longer, more uniform filaments the reason a well-made piece has a fluid drape and a soft rather than glassy sheen. If a brand will not tell you the grade, that is usually an answer in itself.
The dye and the making are accounted for. Our fabrics are coloured with gentle natural dyes and hand-finished by artisans, with our silk yarn woven by all-women weaving communities. That matters for skin contact, and it matters for what you are supporting when you buy.

The Luna Lounge Dress

The Abutai Silk Cami
A standalone Habutai silk cami in Charcoal Calm and Midnight Sea. Habutai is a plain-weave silk with a smooth, lightweight hand cool against skin and completely unfussy. This is the layering piece of the collection. Wear it under a blazer, over pyjama bottoms, or on its own on a warm night.
Modal Silk or Mulberry Silk: Which Should You Choose?
Both appear across our range, and they are genuinely different materials rather than marketing variations.
Modal silk is made primarily from beech tree pulp. It is exceptionally soft, breathable, resistant to shrinkage and less prone to fading or pilling than many natural fibres. Beech trees grow quickly and need relatively little water, which makes modal one of the more sustainable soft fabrics available. Most of the Silk Luxe Lounge is built on it, because it holds up to being worn, washed and lived in repeatedly.
Mulberry silk is the highest quality silk available, produced from cocoons of silkworms fed exclusively on mulberry leaves known for softness, durability and a natural sheen. Ours is ahimsa silk, harvested only after the silkworms have completed their lifecycle and left their cocoons. You will find it in our mulberry silk pillowcases.

How to Wear Silk Loungewear Beyond the Bedroom
The point of luxury silk loungewear is that it does not announce itself as sleepwear. A few combinations that work:
- The cami, elevated. Abutai Silk Cami with high-waisted denim or tailored trousers, a gold chain, flat sandals.
- The slip, layered. Riviera Slip with an oversized knit and boots for autumn, or bare with slides in summer.
- The set, split. Wear the Reverie top with jeans and the bottoms with an old t-shirt. A good silk loungewear set should give you three outfits, not one.
- Travel. Silk packs to almost nothing and resists creasing better than cotton, which makes a lounge dress a genuinely practical thing to fold into a carry-on.
Caring for Silk Loungewear So It Lasts
Silk is more resilient than its reputation suggests, but it dislikes heat and harsh chemistry. Hand washing and hanging to dry gives the best results. If you prefer the machine, use cold water 30°C or under with a pH-neutral detergent on the gentlest delicate cycle, inside a mesh laundry bag.
Avoid bleach, stain removers, fabric softeners and dryer sheets entirely; they strip the fibre. Do not wring the fabric out or tumble dry it. If creases appear, a low iron with steam is enough. Treated this way, a silk piece will still look right several years in.
Because each garment is handcrafted, slight variations in colour and size are part of it the mark of something made by a person rather than stamped out by a machine.
